Waverly Willis, founder of TUBA (The Urban Barber Association), cuts the hair of client Theodore Early on Aug. 28 in Cleveland. Willis excelled as a high school wrestler and football player, and got a college athletic scholarship but dropped out to deal drugs and ended up homeless. CLEVELAND — The Urban Barber Association is holding its annual SWAG Health Fair All Over Cleveland.

The sixth annual fair will be held on Saturday, July 27, at four barbershop locations:

  • Any Kuts Barbershop located at 924 East 222 Street
  • Polished Professionals Barbershop located at 12501Larchmere Blvd
  • 2nd Round Knockouts Barbershop located at 9611 Lorain Road
  • Urban Kutz Barbershop located at 11106 Detroit Ave

Each location will host a free meal and health screenings.

TUBA partnered with the Northeast Ohio Neighborhood Health Services, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland MOTTEP, Kidney Foundation of Ohio, Inc., and the Cleveland Clinic Stephanie Tubbs Jones Health Center to put on the event. Read More…

CLEVELAND, Ohio — An event aimed at raising health awareness will be held in Cleveland on Saturday.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Urban Barber Association will hold the sixth annual SWAG Health Fair. Free health screenings at SWAG – it stands for Saving Women and Gents – will be held at the following barbershops:

  • Any Kuts Barbershop, 924 East 222 St., Euclid.
  • Polished Professionals Barbershop, 12501 Larchmere Blvd., Cleveland.
  • 2nd Round Knockouts Barbershop, 9611 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.
  • Urban Kutz, 11106 Detroit Ave.

Organizers say their goal for the event, which is being held in partnership with a half dozen community health organizations, is to screen, educate and provide health referrals to 1,000 people. Blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and HIV screenings will be offered, as well as free food.
