Claudette is and always will be an advocate for all children. She holds a teaching degree from Sam Sharp Teacher’s College in Jamaica and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Cleveland State University. Claudette’s career has been in service to economically disadvantaged children and families. She is currently the Executive Director of The Barbershop Literacy Project, a program that she founded. The goal of The Barbershop Literacy Project is to use the environment of African American barbershops as a conduit for increasing literacy engagement between African American men and boys to facilitate positive literacy behaviors. The Project offers the opportunity for men to serve as literacy mentors for young boys in a familiar, safe, respectful, comfortable and culturally sensitive environment.
Devon Hickman is a Community Outreach Administrative Program Coordinator for the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. The Departments mission is to engage underserved individuals to build ongoing, permanent relationships for the purpose of applying a collective vision for the benefit of their community. He is responsible for the development and implementation of community based programs for the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. His work involves collaboration with both community and corporate organizations to raise awareness of Taussig’s mission and goals related to community outreach and patient navigation.
Devon has led and has been a partner in many community outreach and public health efforts throughout the Greater Cleveland area, such as the Beauty and Barbershop Cancer Awareness programs. Devon has over nine years of experience in healthcare in the areas of customer service, medical operations and community relations.
Devon is trained in the Patient Services, Caregiver Support, Business Operations areas of healthcare and risk reduction program implementation as well as equipping people and communities with techniques to live longer, healthier lives.In addition to his work in public health and healthcare operations, Devon has served on various committees to engage and empower caregivers at Cleveland Clinic. Outside of his professional duties, Devon serves on the advisory board for the Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistance Career College Lyndhurst campus.

Claudette is also the CEO of Kuya Cards, a greeting card company that offers authentic Caribbean cards for all occasions with messages written in Patois with English translations. Each card is created to reflect the richness of Claudette’s Jamaican roots.
Claudette and her partner Anne are also the founders of Partners in Educating All Children Equally (PEACE). PEACE offers consultation and training for the early childhood community in infusing peace in the curriculum and creating peaceful education environments for young children.

Kristyna (Kris) Jones has 15 years experience in housing and community development. For the last several years, she has been working as an underwriter and credit officer for Low-Income Tax Credits and other debt and credit facilities for community development. Her experience has been developed in several different urban markets. Kris earned her undergraduate degree in Metropolitan Studies with a minor in economics and Africana Studies at New York University and a Master of Science Degree from the Milano School for Urban Policy and Management.
In 2010, Kristyna moved to New Orleans to lead financial services for LISC in the Gulf Region. There she was responsible for providing potential borrowers with access to loans and other funds to continue efforts began post- Katrina to rebuild the Gulf until LISC left the market at the beginning of 2012. She now calls New Orleans home and manages her own small business providing organizational development services to area non-profits.
Kristyna (Kris) Jones
Adam Morgan is a direct descendant of Garrett A. Morgan, who created the stop light, the gas mask, the Call newspaper and a few hair care products. He was also an activist for African American rights. Just as Garrett A. Morgan was instrumental in African American rights so is his great nephew Adam Morgan.
Adam Morgan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January the 7th 1967. He went to Harvey Rice and Prospect elementary schools located in East Cleveland and Cleveland. He later went to Kirk Middle school located in East Cleveland. He then went on to graduate from Shaw High School also located in East Cleveland. After graduating from High School Mr. Morgan went on to study Graphic Design and Pan-African Studies at Kent State University where he received a B. A . Degree.
He later went on to receive a Masters in the Art of Teaching at the Kent State University. It was while studying for his B.A degree that he started to get involved in African American rights. It was at Kent where he was co-founder of the Men of Excellence, which later was changed to the International Men of Excellence.
Cynthia Robinson Hardy is a native of Cleveland, OH and graduate of John Adams High School, Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies, a BA Degree in Business Administration. She has been the Director of Programs and Services for Cleveland Christian Foundation (501 c3) since 2001.
Most of her past work history has been in the medical field and includes working as Office Manager in the Pediatric Department of the Otis Moss, Jr. Medical Center, and the Post Transplant Department of UH for five years.
Now she volunteers wherever her skill set is needed in the community, planning events, fundraisers, and health fairs where she is notable for talking to anyone about prevention of Diabetes and Hypertension. At these events she makes sure that people are aware of the importance of “knowing your numbers” and provides them with a free Blood Glucose Monitoring System.
She also sits on the board for TUBA (The Urban Barbers Association) as the Community Liaison for this organization.

Tamara Rowe is a Cleveland resident however she was born a Georgia peach where her spirituality was nurtured by her wise grandmother. Tamara chose to work in the mental health field as she aspires to help people to get through certain circumstances that life brings. She has a bachelors degree in psychology from Walden University but she boasts that her life experiences are her best teachers.
A humble woman,Tamara is positioning herself for the launch of her own non-profit where she will be able to pour confidence and pride into young ladies that are in need of support. The Urban Barber Association is very fortunate to have this wise woman on the team. She brings inteligence, class and common sense to the table. She has two wonderful sons that she loves very much. Tamara is a beautiful woman in and out and we look forward to seeing huge things from her.
